Chinook Keyboard Centre

The Chinook Keyboard Centre

...is a treasure of delights for piano lovers. It contains some of the oldest pianos in the world and shows the development of the piano from then until now. Knowledgeable, friendly hosts guide the tour groups. For summer and winter tour times, call 403-261-7790.

You will seeThe Music Room which features two period grand pianos, a harpsichord, an electronic Theatre Organ and the electronic duplicate of the Carthy Organ installed at the Jack Singer Concert Hall. Arrangements can be made for lessons, practice times, recitals and concerts.

The Keyboard Experience leads you through the various periods of piano development and features some very unusual models - a grand piano with two keyboards like an organ, a grand piano named The Cocked Hat and two nested grand pianos built upon one frame, for playing duets.

On the second floor, The Interactive Organ Room will fascinate you. Here are housed early organs, keyboards and synthesizers.
There are also several interactive displays for children which demonstrate the sounds of piano strings and organ pipes.

You will also be given a chance the visit The Basement Storeroom where you will see many amazing antique pianos which are waiting for restoration to prepare them to be a part of the main floor display. By the way, The Chinook Keyboard Centre is always looking for more antique keyboard instruments and your suggestions are welcomed.

The Repair Workshop is now being prepared for use and you will be welcome to examine it and watch the tools and techniques being used to prepare pianos for exhibition.

The Chinook Keyboard Centre is a "must see" part of the music education of all keyboard students. The cost is nominal and larger groups are welcomed so that teachers and pupils can easily arrange to visit this amazing exhibit. To make arrangements, call 403-261-7790.

Informational lectures, music classes, demonstrations and concerts are scheduled in the Chinook Keyboard Centre at various times through the year. As the summer season approaches, we will have a calendar of events which we will publish on this page.
